37 percent of suspects in LAPD shootings showed signs of mental illness

Thirty-seven percent of suspects struck in shootings by Los Angeles police officers last year had signs of mental illness, compared to 19 percent in 2014, according to an LAPD report released Tuesday.

Fourteen of the 38 suspects shot by LAPD officers in 2015 had an indication of mental illness, according to the department's year-end review and executive summary of use-of-force incidents.
